Phil Avlas

Grew up in Southern California, in the San Fernando Valley. Played High School baseball at Kennedy High in Granada Hills CA (97-01). Won the LA City Championship in 2000 at Dodger Stadium and earned co-player of the year in the City Section while posting a .471 avg. with 36 RBI. In 2001 was drafted as a catcher in the 24th round of the 2001 MLB player draft by the Arizona Diamondback. Spent 7 years with the Diamondback (02-08). In 2004 was a Cal League All Star catcher for the Lancaster Jethawks, lead the league with 106 games behind the plate and posted a .315 avg. with 13 homeruns and 68 RBI. In 2005 was a part of the Championship Phoenix Desert Dogs of the Arizona Fall League. While finishing my last year with the Diamondbacks in AAA Tucson posted a .294 avg. Played two years of independent ball one for the Joliet Jackhammers of the Northern League (09) and for the Na Koa Ikaika Maui in the Golden League (10).
After hanging them up in 2010 I coached at Viewpoint High School in Calabasas (10-12). I also worked for multiple academy and have been involved with travel ball for many years. I have a desire for teaching and developing young talent. Resides in Newhall, CA with my wife Valerie and two sons Elijah and Ezra.
